We missed sending out the newsletter last week, but we're back and ready to dive into an important topic today!

This Week’s Lesson: Understanding "Todavía," "Todavía no," "Ya," & "Ya no"

Let’s break down these versatile words and their meanings with real-life examples!

1. Todavía – Still

Use "todavía" to express that an action or state that started earlier is still happening now. It’s perfect for showing that something hasn’t changed or finished. It implies that the situation is ongoing, without a specific end in sight.

Example:

  • Todavía estoy trabajando en el proyecto.

  • (I’m still working on the project.)

It implies that the situation is ongoing, without a specific end in sight.

2. Todavía no – Not yet

Use "todavía no" when something is expected to happen but hasn’t happened so far. It adds a sense of waiting or anticipation.

Example:

  • Todavía no he recibido el paquete.

  • (I haven’t received the package yet.)

This phrase shows that while the action hasn’t occurred, it’s expected to happen in the future.

3. Ya – Already

"Ya" indicates that something happened earlier than expected or is completed. It’s perfect for confirming that something is done or ready.

Example:

  • Ya terminé mis tareas.

  • (I’ve already finished my homework.)

It can also imply a sense of urgency or no longer needing to wait.

4. Ya no – No longer

Use "ya no" when something used to happen but doesn’t anymore. It signals a change in the current situation or a state that is no longer true.

Example:

  • Ya no vivo en esa ciudad.

  • (I no longer live in that city.)

This is a great way to express when something has stopped or changed from what it used to be.
